At Portland Wellness Care, located at 4160 NE Sandy Blvd. Suite 1100, Portland, OR 97212, our clinic provides integrated, evidence-based health services to help patients manage back pain, neck pain, joint discomfort, and nerve conditions. Combining Eastern and Western medical treatments under one roof, our team offers specialized therapies designed to restore physical mobility, relieve nerve compression, and promote whole-body recovery without relying solely on medication or invasive procedures. For individuals suffering from herniated discs, sciatica, spinal misalignments, or injury-related nerve pain, spinal decompression chiropractic care serves as a core non-invasive treatment option.
A specialized spinal decompression chiropractor evaluates a wide variety of spinal, joint, and nerve issues to determine if decompression therapy or mechanical traction is appropriate. At Portland Wellness Care, our providers evaluate acute and chronic conditions stemming from daily wear, postural strain, work incidents, or motor vehicle accidents.
Key conditions commonly addressed include:
Herniated & Bulging Discs
Sciatica & Leg Pain
Chronic Lower Back Pain
Neck Pain & Cervical Tension
Spinal Radiculopathy & Myelopathy
Auto Accident & Work Injuries
Understanding the mechanics of chiropractic care spinal decompression begins with looking at how disc herniation and nerve compression develop. A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner material of a spinal disc pushes through its outer layer, pressing against spinal nerves. This pressure can cause spinal radiculopathy, myelopathy, or claudication, leading to acute or chronic discomfort.

When you work with a skilled practitioner, decompression techniques work alongside chiropractic adjustments to treat these conditions directly:
Relieving Nerve Pressure: Traction and decompression therapy create space between the spinal vertebrae, reducing direct mechanical force on pinched nerves.
Reducing Disc Herniation: Gently lengthening the spine helps retract herniated or bulging disc material back toward its proper anatomical alignment.
Improving Range of Motion: By removing mechanical restrictions in the spinal column, patients experience improved movement in the back, neck, hips, and extremities.
Promoting Nutrient Circulation: Decreasing intra-discal pressure facilitates the movement of fluid, nutrients, and oxygen into injured spinal tissues to support long-term healing.
Complemented by Adjustments: Manual spinal adjustments help optimize joint alignment, ensuring that the entire spinal column functions efficiently.
