I came in for a massage and it was excellent! Desi was highly recommended by a friend of mine and I had to see him for my shoulder and neck issues. He is wonderful! My massages are never relaxing because I like them deep. And Desi did amazing with my deep tissue massage. I would recommend him to my friends and family for sure!

Kevin Ryan, LMT, BS

Kevin is a longtime NW native and lifelong athlete. His pursuit in sport is the inspiration to study movement sciences and massage therapy. He studied Kinesiology at Western Washington University and received his massage training at East West College here in Portland where he has called home since 2017.

Kevin integrates western techniques with traditional relaxation bodywork in his massage practice. He approaches massage from a structural integration perspective that takes in account a client’s postural balance, daily movement patterns and addresses causes for dysfunction or pain. Kevin’s goal in every session is to treat each client individually to help decrease pain levels and improve function.

Madison Hubbell, LMT

Madison has been an athlete since a young age.Her understanding of muscle pain comes from personal experience as well as her education. Madison got her massage therapy license with Carrington College. She has an associates degree in Kinesiology from Skyline Community College in San Bruno California. She also has a health coaching certification from The Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Currently she is enrolled at Portland State University and pursuing a bachelors degree in Health and Fitness.

What Our Patients Say About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapeutic massage references any type of medical massage modality that helps reduce or relieve pain. At Portland Wellness Care, all our licensed massage therapists are trained in injury and pain reduction therapy, such as work injuries, sports injuries, and whiplash. If you’d like to learn more about massage therapy, see our blog post ‘What is Massage Therapy?“.

Therapeutic massage is used on its own, or in conjunction with other physical medicine practices to reduce or relieve pain. It is beneficial for a wide range of injuries, such as work injuries, whiplash, sports injuries, postural stress or frozen shoulder.

Therapeutic massage is often more specific to the patient’s specific injury recovery, and will utilize gentle techniques and often involves movement and stretching on the table. Deep tissue massage incorporates myofascial release, trigger point therapy and less specific deeper massage techniques.

Therapeutic massage includes more specific massage modalities in relation to the patient’s injury, and can incorporate movement, stretching and exercise during the massage to increase range of motion, function and the patient’s activity ability.

The most common side effect of therapeutic massage is general soreness and fatigue. Many patients don’t experience this side effect, but if they do it is typically mild and can last 12-24 hours.

There are no disadvantages of massage therapy. Some specific health conditions will require more caution to avoid too strong of an effect, but at Portland Wellness Care our providers are trained to identify and treat such conditions and handle them appropriately.

Massage therapy can have several benefits. Some of the most common benefits are;

  1. Pain relief
  2. Muscle relaxation and stress reduction
  3. Increased joint mobility and flexibility
  4. Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
  5. Improved recovery of soft tissue injury

No, not at all! Although it is more common to fall asleep during longer spa or relaxation massages than with therapeutic massage, falling asleep is a sign that your body is very relaxed and benefiting from treatment.

At Portland Wellness Care, all of our Licensed Massage therapists are trained and experienced to treat all musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, from shoulder sprains to whiplash. Each therapist takes the time to address and meet each patient’s specific conditions and recovery goals. At Portland Wellness Care, our therapists have over 25 years combined experience in treating and aiding in injury recovery.
