How to Avoid Sports Injuries in the Spring Time

Spring has sprung and with it comes a season of outdoor activities! Folks head outside to play sports, exercise, or maybe even grill out with some friends. With over 10 million sports injuries occurring each year, easing your body into a successful season is key to reducing your risk of injury.

Follow these tips to avoid a springtime injury during physical activity

Warm-Up and Stretch:

Warm-up with a low-level activity like jump rope, or jumping jacks before stretching.

Take Breaks During Activities:

It’s important to rest during physical activities. Especially since most activities in the spring are outside. Precautions should be taken to avoid heat illness.

Hydrate:

As temperatures rise, it’s important to drink plenty of water. The American Heart Association says that for every pound of sweat that you lose, a pint of water is needed to restore the lost fluid. Be wise.

Take Time Off:

Give yourself time to rest. Take at least 1 or 2 days a week to take a break from a certain activity and give your muscles a chance to repair themselves.
