How Acupuncture Can Help During Pregnancy

Acupuncture is believed to help during pregnancy by providing various benefits, such as:

  1. Alleviating nausea and vomiting: Acupuncture can help relieve morning sickness, which is a common problem during early pregnancy.
  2. Reducing stress and anxiety: Pregnancy can be a stressful time, and acupuncture can help reduce stress and anxiety by increasing the production of endorphins, which are natural painkillers and stress-relievers.
  3. Relieving pain: Acupuncture can help relieve back pain, headache, and other types of pain commonly experienced during pregnancy.
  4. Improving sleep: Pregnancy can cause sleep disturbances, and acupuncture can help improve sleep quality and duration.
  5. Promoting fetal development: Acupuncture can help improve blood flow to the uterus and enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus.
  6. Preparing for labor and delivery: Acupuncture can help prepare the body for labor and delivery by promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

It is important to note that acupuncture should be performed by a qualified practitioner who is experienced in treating pregnant women, and that it should always be used in conjunction with standard medical care.

Prenatal & Pregnancy Care Clinic FAQs

How do women’s health clinics help with pregnancy?

By providing prenatal care, making sure there are no complications, making sure the fetus is growing on target, making sure mother nutrition is sound, and providing mental health support to both parents. Worth noting a woman’s blood volume doubles during pregnancy, which can cause fatigue and other “anemia” like symptoms. supporting with good nutrition and then bolstering the body’s ability to take the food we eat and turn it into blood, this mechanism is often weak in many people due to poor nutrition and poor eating habits. There can also be blood flow issues that arise, simply because the blood volume is double what it normally is, that’s why maintaining good blood circulation is important.

When should you visit a women’s health clinic for pregnancy?

It is advised that you visit a women’s health clinic 8-10 weeks after a missed period, you should have a prenatal exam to verify pregnancy even with a positive pregnancy test. Often they will do an ultrasound or fetal doppler to verify heartbeat and pregnancy viability. Oftentimes, the next appointment is around 18 weeks to do a growth/anatomy ultrasound to check on the positioning of the placenta, many complications arise with a low-lying placenta or placenta previa, and to make sure the growth of the fetus is on target. Babies who are small for gestational age (SGA) is often due to a blood supply issue either with the placenta or with the cord.

If there is no history of infertility or miscarriage, then acupuncture 1x/mo can help support the growth of the fetus and support the carrying parent. If the pregnancy is high risk, then treatment amount would increase to 1-3x/weekly depending on the problem.

In what ways can a woman stay healthy during pregnancy?

Pregnant women can stay health by eating regularly (every 2-3hrs) and including lots of healthy protein. We also recommend taking prenatal vitamins. Receiving acupuncture and massage to help with blood flow

Acupuncture for Pregnancy: Frequently Asked Questions

The effectiveness of acupuncture for increasing fertility and promoting pregnancy can vary among individuals. Some studies suggest that acupuncture may help to improve fertility by regulating hormones and increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs.

Yes, absolutely. At this stage, we make sure that the fetus is in proper positioning and help the body prepare for labor.

There is evidence to suggest that acupuncture may be effective in helping to turn a breech baby. A breech position refers to when a baby is positioned bottom or feet first instead of head first in the uterus, which is the ideal position for delivery.

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is sometimes used to help turn a breech baby by promoting relaxation and reducing tension in the muscles and tissues of the uterus. We also use moxibustion, a technique that involves burning a small herb near certain acupuncture points, to help encourage the baby to turn into a head-down position.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that acupuncture can increase the chance of having twins. The chance of having twins is determined by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, such as age, family history, and the use of certain fertility treatments.

While acupuncture may have a positive impact on fertility by reducing stress, improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, and regulating hormones, there is no evidence to support the claim that it can increase the likelihood of having twins.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that acupuncture can disrupt implantation. Implantation is a complex process that is influenced by many factors, including hormonal balance, the health of the endometrial lining, and the quality of the embryo.

While acupuncture has been shown to have a positive impact on fertility by reducing stress, improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, and regulating hormones, there is no evidence to support the claim that it can disrupt implantation.
